Legal (sewn) binding

Legal (sewn) bound books are built to stand the test of time. The pages are actually sewn together creating a virtually indestructible book. We call it legal binding because it is frequently used for the binding of legal documents.

The legal books we produce are first sewn and then glued to create the text block. The "end leaves" that holds the text block to the hard cover are applied to the binding edge of the text block. The cover is created separately using your selected materials and is glued to the
end leaves and text block, creating a
book that will last for years.

Preparing Your Document

Pages:

Because of the sewing process, please allow a 1" margin on the binding edge of each page and at least a 1/2" margin at the top, bottom, and outside edge of the page.

Book1One works exclusively with PDF files. Creating a PDF is very easy and can be done two different ways:

        1. You can convert your document to PDF using your own PDF converter
either online or as a print driver on your own computer. When
converting to PDF, please maintain the "highest resolution" and make
            sure the fonts are embedded.

        2. Book1One's online-ordering system allows you to upload many
different file formats. This system will convert your file to a print ready
PDF. Please be sure to completely review your file on the "approve
page" as this is the file that will print.

 Cover:

When laying out your printed cover wrap, do not have any color breaks at the spine. This is because there is a natural variation in the way the cover wrap is applied to the case. This variation can leave you with color wrapping to the spine or cover of the book.

For basic foil stamping you can simply note what will be required on the cover and spine in the notes section while placing your order. We will fit and center the type using the Time New Roman font.
